The shunt filter only filters 5%-10% of the oil supplied by the oil pump. Shunt oil filters are fine filters, it is generally used in conjunction with the full flow. Most engines with small power only adopt full-flow filter, while diesel engines with large power mostly adopt full-flow plus shunt filter.
